Community Thanksgiving Serves 450 Meals Thanks to Local Volunteers

by KCP

Several years ago, Isabel and Mark Zigmond opened the doors of their restaurant on Thanksgiving Day, welcoming community members to share a holiday meal at no cost. Their generosity and spirit quickly took root, and what began as a small act of kindness soon grew into an annual tradition where neighbors gathered for a delicious meal, friendship, and the opportunity to volunteer and serve others. In recent years, the celebration has expanded and now takes place at the Kinney County Community Center, where it remains free and open to the public. The event is organized by Ziggy’s BBQ, Donna and John Paul Schuster, and a dedicated team of volunteers who make the feast possible each year. This year a total of 450 plates were served to neighbors across the community. County Judge John Paul Schuster said on his Facebook page, “A special thank-you goes to Ziggy’s Roadside BBQ for once again preparing the perfectly smoked turkey and ham. Sides and desserts were lovingly made by Rachel Earwood, Nevada Ward, Margaret Davis, Shirley Greenwalt, Yolanda Rueda, Donna Schuster, and Tyler Schuster, whose hard work helped make the meal complete. We are also grateful for the volunteers who delivered plates around town and assisted in serving everyone who joined us in person. Your time, kindness, and teamwork helped make this year’s Thanksgiving gathering a warm and memorable success for all.”
