Candidate Filing Continues for 2026 Kinney County Elections

by KCP

Kinney County voters will head to the polls in November 2026 to elect several key county officials, including the County Judge, County Commissioners for Precincts 2 and 4, Justice of the Peace, County Clerk, and County Treasurer. Each of these positions carries a four-year term. Although Election Day is still nearly a year away, the filing period for candidates seeking a place on the March 3, 2026 Primary Election ballot is already underway. Filing opened Saturday, November 8, 2025, and will remain open through Monday, December 8, 2025, at 6 p.m.
Individuals interested in running for one of the county offices must file their applications with either the Kinney County Democratic Party Chair or the Kinney County Republican Party Chair, depending on the primary in which they choose to run. Independent candidates and write-in candidates follow a different process with separate deadlines set by the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.
Candidates may either pay the required filing fee or submit a petition in lieu of the filing fee, which requires collecting a specific number of valid voter signatures. Voters should be aware that signing a candidate’s petition counts as participation in that party’s primary. This means that a voter who signs a Republican candidate’s petition may not vote in the Democratic primary, and vice-versa. Signing a petition effectively ties the signer to that party’s upcoming primary election.

Filing forms, eligibility requirements, and campaign finance information are available through the Kinney County Clerk’s Office or online at www.sos.texas.gov. Additional filings will be reported as information becomes available from party chairs or the County Clerk’s Office.
The March 3, 2026 Primary Election will determine each party’s nominees for the November General Election. Those primary winners will face off in the General Election on November 3, 2026. Voter registration deadlines, early voting dates, and polling locations will be announced closer to election season. For now, the filing window remains open, and prospective candidates have until December 8 at 6 p.m. to submit their paperwork and officially enter the race.
