A Local Love of Line Dancing
My first line dancing experience was at Fort Clark Springs a little over 20 years ago. I had 2 left feet and no rhythm, but I was determined to learn. I never dreamed that just a few years later I would be teaching. When our line dancing teacher left, I was asked to take over the class. I reminded them that I was still learning and a Yankee! Several said that if I would take over the responsibility of getting the key and getting things ready, they would assist. Well, it wasn’t long before I was actually leading the class. We even performed in one of the Old Quarry Plays, and in a couple of the variety shows. In 2014, I was asked to start a class in Uvalde at the Herby Ham Activity Center. I taught there for a little over 10 years and had a class ranging from 8-12 each week. Last year, I did a small class at the Kinney County Nutrition Center. This past spring, I was asked to start a class in Brackettville at the Library. I thought long and hard over the summer, about whether I wanted to take on another class and finally decided that since I loved to line dance, I might as well. We are dancing weekly on Mondays in the Fritter Room located behind the Kinney County Library from 6-7:30 pm. This class is a low impact, beginner’s class. We are just getting started so hopefully as the weather cools more people will join us. Everyone is welcome, even those with two left feet and no rhythm!
A healthy Kinney County requires great community news.
