This year’s Seminole Days featured a moving moment when descendants of Sgt. Isaac Gordon, a distinguished Seminole Indian Scout, gathered at the Seminole Scout Camp on Fort Clark historical marker. Pictured left to right: Marcelo Vasquez, great-grandson of Sgt. Isaac Gordon; Denys Vasquez-Welch, 2x great-granddaughter; Phillip Gordon, great-grandson; Kany Villalobos, 2x great-granddaughter. Each individual represents a direct connection to the courageous legacy of the Seminole Indian Scouts, whose service was critical in maintaining safety along the Texas-Mexico border in the late 19th century. This photograph stands as a testament to the strength of family ties and the commitment to preserving the history and contributions of their ancestors. Through gatherings like Seminole Days, these families continue to honor the sacrifices of their forebears and ensure that their legacy remains vibrant within the collective memory of the community.
