In Loving Memory: Genevieve Ellen “Genie” Wallen Nixon

Genevieve Ellen “Genie” Wallen Nixon gained her wings at 92 years of age, on Wednesday, December 6th after a long, joyful life. She was born on August 25, 1931, to Edmund T Wallen and Genevieve Sims Wallen in Brackettville, TX. She grew up in both Brackettville and Del Rio moving away after she married in 1949.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years Nick Nixon, her infant daughter Vickie Lynn and her son Gary “Dub” Nixon. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Horton, her granddaughter Shannon Horton, her grandson Spenser Horton, her sisters Sandy Burk and Gloria Sablatura (Bobby) and brother Tom Wallen (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews.

She loved her heritage and her country. She served her community in many realms including Civil Defense volunteer, Blue Bird leader, Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader as well as a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping with her family. Other interests included country western dancing and a trip to Vegas every once in a while. In later years, she moved back to Brackettville where she lived on her small ranch raising goats, sheep, donkeys, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats and an occasional calf with her partner Wroe Lynch. She spent the last year of her life in Onalaska, TX with her daughter and grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Brackettville Sunset Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church at 105 James St, Brackettville, TX.

The interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Brackettville, TX.
