Gonzales with Eagle Pass Mayor and Local Officials on Friday
EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – On Friday, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) met with Eagle Pass Mayor, Rolando Salinas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, Border Patrol Agents, and medical personnel in Eagle Pass. Congressman Gonzales released the following statement on the current situation unfolding at the southern border.
“I’ve been told that tens of thousands of migrants are still on their way from Mexico and Central America. Processing capacity is at four times its max and local resources are being depleted. This crisis is on track to be just as bad, if not worse, than what happened in Del Rio two years ago,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales.
Friday evening, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced 232,972 migrants were encountered in August – marking the highest number of August migrant encounters on record. On Monday, Congressman Tony Gonzales will lead a Congressional Delegation with U.S. Representatives who sit on the House Homeland Security Committee to Eagle Pass.
